The Elementals is a series of a cappella music experiments by Fredo Viola. Similar to the technique of automatic writing, each loop- based piece was begun without a plan, mixed and created live, and afterwards abbreviated for the listener.

It Began to Rain is the first of the series and was performed during a summer solstice rainstorm that ended a long draught.
